Picket lines will do that to you.
This is amazing.

Dhark: Local movie theater.

8:48 PM But it was while Laurean was at work so I didn't go.
Dhark: Cool.
Ah.
You are wise.
Anyway, it's not a movie I'd go see if Apatow wasn't involved.
But they absolutely do not know how to market his movies at all.
me: haha
8:49 PM Dhark: It can't be as good as Superbad, though. That was fantastic.
8:50 PM me: I'm trying to get somewhere real.

DD&D: Display Themselves, Part 2

"Not trendy" is an understatement. I once described our trendiness as "Geeks take 1 point of damage per turn they are in Hot Topic."

Anywho, I'm Dan, and I didn't think that Dash was actually going to make good on his threat to set up the DD&DD blog. My last attempt at blogging was a failure, so we'll see how this one goes.

My interests include anime, video games, and how both are perceived by mainstream culture. I'll also probably talk about Japanese culture, programming, MMORPGs and tabletop roleplaying. I rarely watch TV or movies, so you'll have to get your fourth D about those things from the remaining duo.

DD&D: Display Themselves, Part 1

We're not trendy.

It's true. I think you're old enough to hear this: your ol' Uncles Dhark, Dash and Dan are just about as far from the style curve as you can get without falling off the other end. This, of course, meant we could objectively view trendy society, as we were sufficiently removed from it. Between debates over Star Wars, Star Trek, the dangers of time travel, various Magic: The Gathering events and releases, and shaking our fists at the punks who stole our lunch money, we came up with more than a few kind and cruel words about society and the distractions within it. It's far time we put these thoughts to (virtual) paper and scratch (type) out our place in the margins of the world.

Typing right now is TempestDash which is typically shortened to just Dash, the... uh, 2nd 'D' in the title. I'm second alphabetically and second in age as well, securing my spot quite firmly as the middle child... if we were all related. I, along with Dhark and Dan, all graduated a number of years ago with Computer Science degrees, but I took mine and headed off in a random direction, ending up with a career in accounting. I'm easily the least read of our group, only managing to sit down with a book three or four times a year, mostly with fiction, and typically in the genres of science fiction and mystery, though I did read Harry Potter as it came out.

I watch movies for fun, so anything that hits too close to home is probably not my tastes. I lean towards science fiction, but will catch anything that sounds off-beat or adventurous. I watch TVs to laugh and be challenged by complex storylines that are too long for movies. I am one of the two of us who watch anime, mostly because it's off beat, makes me laugh, and tends towards the science fiction, so it hits all my sweet spots. As far as video games go, I play to experience the art form and see the story, leaving things like gameplay to a distant second. Though I do like a good co-op shooter like Gears of War or Halo 3.

I tend to react strongly to inconsistencies and general disrespect to the audience of an artform, and you'll probably see strong opinions most frequently from me. That said, I like to find harmony, so more often than not I'll be working to reconcile the differing opinions of my compatriots.

Anyway, I hope someone finds this blog entertaining. These early posts won't be all too funny as they are introductory, but once we get into the groove, things should pick up a bit. Check back frequently to see more!
